Graesenne & Brock’s Vibrant Cocktail Wedding

When Graesenne told us that her husband Brock has, “loved me at my best and asked me at my worst” we wanted to hear more of their story! After seven years, three fur babies, two matching superhero tattoos and one beautiful son, they tied the knot at a vibrant cocktail wedding. From the colourful flowers and cake in rainbow hues to the bride’s dream car, a bright yellow Kombi, this gorgeous couple got the experts on board for the details so they could focus on the party!

The Planning Experience

“It was really cruisy to start with. Once all the big things were booked in it just felt like we were waiting around for the big day. I loved that we could leave everything up to the professionals to do what they do best. The worst part would have been the month leading up, when we got sick. Trying to finish off all the little stuff seemed to be so much harder than what it actually was.”

The Ceremony

“Our celebrant was amazing with working in what we wanted. We remember asking her how long the ceremony had to be and she was a little taken aback by how short we wanted it. We had waited seven years, we couldn’t wait any longer! Writing our own vows was definitely a highlight for us – it was a mission, but so worth it.”

Finding the Dress

“It was a lot less stressful than I thought it was going to be. I had a look at local bridal shops on social media and that’s when I saw it! It was the first dress I tried on and I cried. It was comfortable (I didn’t have to wear Spanx), it was practical (that bad boy had pockets) and it was white (Brock’s only rule for the dress). I did try on other dresses, but I knew straight away that it was ‘The One’.”

Bridal Party

“Our groomsmen were a dressed down version of what Brock was wearing, so it was easy getting them sorted. Just remove the jacket and voila! The bridesmaids were super easy as well. I had the girls all choose their own outfits in white, so hopefully with it being their own style they may wear it again!”

Personal Touches

“My ‘Something Blue’ was the first piece of jewellery Brock ever bought me. He also spoiled me on our wedding day. I have been forever in love with Kombi vans, but I’m very practical in that I know they’re expensive to own and maintain, so I’ll never be able to have one. But he made it a dream come true. I had my very first ride in a beautiful sunshine yellow Kombi. I don’t know if I’ll remember it as my wedding day or the Kombi ride day!”

Meaningful Music

“I walked down the aisle to ‘Running Home to You’ by Grant Gustin. A combination of love and superheroes from the TV show The Flash. Our first dance was to ‘You and I’ by Ingrid Michaelson. It was sweet and funny.”

Entertaining Guests

“We didn’t organise any activities for on the day besides music. We knew our family and friends would want the time to sit down and catch up with each other, so we left them to it. We had a cocktail style reception, so no seating plans thank goodness – definitely a lot less stressful! We ended up with scattered tables, chairs, barrels and bar stools set up underneath festoon lighting, so it turned out to be a very relaxed and happy atmosphere.”

Best Advice

1. Practice smiling like right now so your face doesn’t hurt so much on the day!

2. Don’t stress the small stuff. Honestly in 40 years’ time, will you remember that out of place chair or incorrectly folded napkin? I sure as hell won’t.

3. Get yourself a dress with pockets. You might have the dilemma of, “Who’s going to hold my vows while I walk down the aisle with sweating palms?” BOOM problem solved, you can!
